Bespoke Benches

Over the many years J B Corrie have been trading, we have partnered numerous architects and consultants and progressed their initial concepts and turned them into a reality.

The photographs to the right and in the gallery show artistically designed, colourful benches by Blustin Heath Architects. In conjunction with the architects Corries manufactured, coated, clad, delivered and fitted these benches to a regenerative housing site in London.

On the same project, Corries also supplied a Multi-Use Games Area but with a difference! Included into the fencing brief from Blustin Heath was a “zigzag” metal artwork and up-rated panelling for the practicing of football free kicks.

The other pictures on this page are of a bench that is a massive 20 metres long! This unusual fabrication came about as a result of an enquiry from the countryside section of Buckinghamshire County Council. Within the original brief we were told that the hilltop site was of archaeological interest and the rear of the bench would have to include integrated information panels and a view point.

As you can imagine, a bench measuring 20 metres long is impractical to both galvanise and powder coat as well as transport around the country. Corries solution was to manufacture the bench in manageable sections that when formed as one bench would have to take the loads associated with the bench being completely full of visitors enjoying the extensive view.

Owing to the site being of archaeological interest we were informed by the client that we would not be allowed to concrete the bench in place and that another solution would have to be provided.

The project got underway with a Corries visiting site and carrying out a detailed laser level site survey. This was then presented to the countryside section with a CAD drawing of the proposed bench. This drawing was used for planning and obtained approval. Corries were then given the order to manufacture, deliver and erect the bench.

The final installation is both practical and educational. Providing interpretation of the panoramic view and points of local interest, as well as a seating area for visitors and ramblers. This was all created by working in cooperation with our client to achieve a “concept to reality solution!” and the rest as they say is history!
